5 steps to becoming healthy

What does health mean to you? Is it just exercising more or is it starting a diet? According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), health is not just about not having an illness, it is a complete state of physical, social and mental well-being. Many of us may be falling behind in one aspect of health or another. So, here are 5 steps to take now to become healthy!

Step 1: Eating better

You are what you eat, as the old saying goes, thus eating healthier food may have a surprising influence on your health and quality of life. Due to the abundance of processed meals in our modern diets, we frequently are unaware of the things we are taking into our bodies. You’ll need to eat better, not less, in order to get healthy, which entails choosing nutrient-dense meals and paying closer attention to what precisely is in your food.

Here are some pointers to get you started if improving your diet is one of your new goals.

  • Eat plenty of fresh, non-processed foods
  • Drink plenty of water every day (at least 64 ounces)
  • Limit caffeine and alcohol intake
  • Having less takeaways, and eating homemade food

Step 2: Starting an exercise

To maintain a healthy lifestyle and to offset the detrimental effects of today’s sedentary lives, regular exercise is essential. The good news is that you only need to make sure you move more; it doesn’t matter what form of exercise you pick! Get 150 minutes per week—or 30 minutes each day—of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise. Get two to three 20 to 30 minute strength-training sessions each week, concentrating on the main muscular groups. It will improve your energy, productivity, and mood while also keeping your body in good shape.

For aerobic exercise, we recommend jump rope. Here some reason why you should start jump rope now:

  1. It is a whole body workout. It requires the coordination of many different body muscles, including those found in the legs, torso and arms. Activation of these muscles are the key to looking leaner.
  2. It is very efficient when compared to running. 10 minutes of jump rope is equivalent to 30 minutes of running.
  3. Jumping rope is also an excellent way to improve your cardiorespiratory fitness
  4. A rope is very portable. The portability of jump ropes make them an excellent option for outdoor workouts at your favourite park or exercise course. No more worries about buying a gym membership.

Step 3: Take sufficient rests

If you just do one thing to enhance your health this year, make sure you get more quality sleep. Many contemporary health issues, such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, high blood pressure, and stroke, are rooted in a lack of sleep. Avoid eating too late in the evening, maintain a cool temperature in your bedroom, and switch off all electronics at least an hour before bedtime to increase the quality of your sleep.

Try to get 7-8 hours every night and try to keep a regular sleep-wake cycle. This means that you need to go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Your general health and happiness are likely to significantly improve if you change your sleep habits.

Step 4: Socialising more

We need to spend more time maintaining our mental health, even though we frequently place the majority of our attention on improving our physical health. According to numerous scientific research, numerous physical conditions have been linked to stress or other mental health problems. Spending time with family and friends is crucial if you want to enhance your quality of life. Humans are social creatures, and it has been demonstrated that social interaction has a variety of positive effects on one’s health.

A supportive social network can lengthen your life, help you cope with stress better, and even boost your heart health. So try to surround yourself with people that help you relax and bring you joy.

Step 5: Doctor visits

All ages should schedule annual exams since they help identify diseases early, before they have major effects. A doctor’s visit can also help to get to know more about the aspects of your health you need to work on.
